Motorcoach OEMS Reach Out to Industry Suppliers and Stakeholders with GoFundMe Campaign

On behalf of the OEMs and operators who have volunteered their staff, resources and funds to make “Motorcoaches Rolling for Awareness” (MR4A) in Washington, D.C. on May 13th a reality, the event committee has agreed to launch a “GoFundMe” campaign. The campaign is designed to receive support that has been offered by numerous suppliers and industry advocates to offset the incremental costs incurred to make this a no-cost event for operator participants.

Overwhelming positive response from industry operators, mushroomed the scope of the not-for-profit event quickly beyond what the all-volunteer committee team could finalize within a two-week window leading up to the May 13th rally, prompting the committee to secure a third-party media relations organization to augment efforts of all stakeholders including ABA and UMA. To date, thousands of dollars and man-hours have been generously donated by the self-formed planning committee. Additionally, a collective, herculean media relations outreach has focused on local, state and national media coverage of participants and the event, including all forms of press and social media.

MR4A is not an association or entity, and the GoFundMe campaign will potentially allow the committee to funnel support dollars back to those who have incrementally invested in the event. This includes logistical costs such as on-site traffic support and equipment, subsidized parking and event fees, additional vehicles and support teams, etc.

The focus of creating “rolling awareness” is to culminate with the ABA and UMA jointly securing government support of $15 billion in grants and loans and modifications to Economic Injury Disaster Loan and Paycheck Protection Programs. The investments made by the committee member organizations are critical to the motorcoach industry’s long-term viability and ensuring public awareness to prevent the industry from being excluded from directed transportation industry relief efforts.

By participating in the GoFundMe campaign, contributors can show tangible support of the motorcoach industry. Operators who originally intended to bring more than one coach to the rally, are encouraged to limit themselves to a single vehicle (and any requested “donor” vehicles), and instead consider investing in the industry by supporting this campaign at https://www.gofundme.com/f/5qv2m9-support-motorcoaches-rolling-for-awareness

ABC COMPANIES LEADS CARAVAN OF MOTORCOACH OPERATORS TO INDUSTRY “ROLLING RALLY” IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

Drivers Meet Up at Regional ABC Locations.

Independent motorcoach operators are meeting up at ABC Companies’ regional locations in Minnesota and Florida this week to caravan toward Washington, D.C. They will join over 500 motorcoach operators from all 50 states on May 13 for a rolling rally around the U.S. Capitol and National Mall to remind Members of Congress and the Trump Administration that the industry needs directed federal assistance.

In a show of rolling unity, independent motorcoach operators began banding together today to move out in unison as they trek toward the nation’s capital. In St. Paul, Minnesota, a caravan of 18 buses kick-started the event with a “drive-by” of the Minnesota State Capitol to create awareness with state and local representatives. Regional operators will also assemble at ABC Companies’ Winter Garden, FL facility, Tuesday May 12th at 5:30am, where the local police department will escort 20+ buses onto Florida’s turnpike. The caravan, led by ABC Companies plans to rendezvous with drivers from Tallahassee and Pensacola as they cross the state line in what will become over one continuous mile of motorcoaches steadily growing as they merge state-by-state with other participants, forming what will become more than 10 miles of motorcoaches along the highway.

The “Motorcoaches Rolling for Awareness” is a one day, one-time event, born of a grassroots movement of all-volunteer, self-organized motorcoach operators, industry suppliers and state associations, represented by a joint initiative between the nation’s two largest associations, American Bus Association and United Motorcoach Association. The motorcoach industry has laid off or furloughed more than 90 percent of its workforce nationally in the wake of COVID-19 and has requested $15 billion in federal grants and loan guarantees and modifications to Economic Injury Disaster Loan and Paycheck Protection Program. The rally is a positive event showcasing how big buses and small businesses move America. Buses will include informative signs about the motorcoach industry including: the groups they serve, the economic impact they make and the people they employ.

ABC Companies Spearheads Unprecedented Motorcoach Industry Rally

After seeing and listening to so many small business owners devasted by the COVID pandemic, ABC Companies was inspired to create a concept that would help them have a big voice with government. What initially began as a proposal shared with ABA and UMA, later married up with a very similar vision shared by the Ohio Motorcoach Association and the MR4A (Motorcoaches Rolling for Awareness) movement was born. Other key contributors including DATTCO and DC Trails quickly jumped onboard and helped to formulate ideas and strategize how bring the biggest industry social media “meet up” in history to life.

“The event coordination is being led by an all-volunteer group of individuals from multiple disciplines within the industry”, said Thom Peebles, Vice President, Marketing, ABC Companies. “When Roman Cornell (ABC President and Chief Commercial Officer) and I first developed the concept, it was simply to help our industry get back on the road. ABC and the Cornell family have long believed that taking care of customers takes care of everything else and we couldn’t just sit back and watch our industry, customers and friends be decimated by these shut downs”. According to Peebles, following the first meeting with ABA and UMA they were introduced to the President of the Ohio Motorcoach Association, Ben Bolog, who is an independent multi-generational operator and President of US Coach Tours.  Bolog was also simultaneously developing the same concept ABC had brought to the table. All parties quickly recognized the obvious synergies of bringing ABC and OMA together. As the teams synced up, the idea took root and all became hyper-focused on determining what it would take to pull it off.  After consulting with different operators and associations, it was clear that the industry was primed for the idea and needed a method to funnel into action. The initiative was agreed to, named and a website set up all in the same day. Since that time, Roman Cornell has generously contributed many staff members including Peebles who is spearheading much of the effort, to bring this event to life. Since the concept’s inception, key industry leaders including MCI, Prevost, and other OEMS have all contributed at various levels to ensure that the event accurately represents the industry as a whole and its many customers served. “This is the kind of grass roots movement my grandfather Clancy Cornell would have gotten behind and I think he would be proud of ABC working so hard and at this level to help our customers and their businesses. Making customers and our industry our priority is what makes ABC what it is today”, added Cornell. “When this pandemic first hit, I challenged my team to truly understand how we could help our customers and our industry as a whole. Since then, we have launched our CLEANS initiative of products and services to clean and sanitize motorcoaches and provide support elements to get the traveling public back on our customers coaches. When the concept of bringing miles of motorcoaches to D.C. as rolling billboards to educate and garner government and public support, in a way that was positive, I was all in”, he said.

“We think this will be the largest meet up in our industry’s history and we’re truly humbled to be a part of it. We look forward to seeing so many of our friends and operators on the road, as we roll together during the ultimate social distancing, awareness raising event”, concluded Peebles. ABC companies will be posting daily updates about the MR4A Event at: www.abc-companies and #dontmissourbus #busesmoveamerica #motorcoachesrolling4awareness #rolling4awareness #R4A2020.
